View Full Version : Should I become a Witness?

There was an accident in my work last month whilst I was covering a shift in the restaurant (I work for a large department store)

I was OK with speaking to the health and safety inspector but now the person involved wants me to be a witness and a solicitor would like to contact me.

I'm doing well in my work, I'm established there and don't want to jeapordise my job (albeit weekend/part time) for the sake of being a witness. The manager of the store asked me what the inspector asked me and implied that what I had said was "the right thing" (I actually missed out a few details of what was said to the inspector when I was speaking to the the manager)

I have the feeling that if i become a witness things will be made hard for me at work and I get nothing out of it (not that I want anything - I just mean this person could get a payout and I get a hard time at work)

I wasn't the only person to witness this btw.

Would you be a witness? Should I?

If you were injured would you want someone to be a witness in your case?

Depends, if it was a witness to a crime then yes. If you're jeopardising your job so someone can make a few extra quid in compo then i wouldn't bother.

Dunno. Can't they make you anyway?

I'd do whatever was right. (For my own judgement of right.)

TBH if being a witness prevents a possible repeat in which you could be the victim, why the hell wouldn;t you?

Being a witness shouldn't effect your status at work anyway?
