Never dyed my hair so won't offer advice on that bit .. but what don't you like about it?

Have you considered adding highlights?

Are you a natural brunette? Do NOT do it yourself, you will ruin your hair and it's likely to go orange. Why don't you just work with what you've got?

Or else go to a training salon/hairdressing college and get it done cheaply.

i put blonde tags in my own natural dark brown hair using this stuff (http://www.smartbeauty.eu/uk/allovercolour.html) in platimum blonde which i got for £4.99 in wilko's and you get two of everything in the box.

its turned out fine, i did a test on some of my hair i cut off first.

If you are gonna do it make sure you're not going out anywhere that you want to look your best. If it does go yellow/orange you can put a treatment on it and do it again after a day or two - but if you do i strand test first and see how long it takes to develop and if it takes you should be fine i reckon

Chelle, do it RED! Honestly, my hair stays so so so so so shiny for about 4 weeks after I've dyed it. You've got a dark base for it so it'll be fine to dye it red.

I get much more attention dying my hair red with Herbal Essences 'Radiant Ruby'. :)

I could show you lots of pics of my shiny red hair, it's always in amazing condition. It smells just like the Herbal Essences shampoo range once you're finished. :)

ETA - this is my hair last night 4 weeks after it was last coloured and look how vibrant and shiny it STILL is! :D

Well sheen and colour are two different things.

That's the trouble I see with most girls who dye their own hair they strip out all the luster to their hair and espacially when they go blonde it looks like dried straw.

Without seeing a recent side by side comparison of you as blonde vs brunette I still recon you'd look better brunette (going from memory) - if it's shine you want can't you do one of those deep conditionings?

Just do it! I've honestly never looked back. My hair never ever shone as much as it did when it was blonde and no one can ever see me going back to being a blonde. Everyone I know is blonde!

I'll show you how may hair looks:-

1st pic - how red my hair first came out when I dyed it on top of blonde.
2nd pic - how looked when it starts to fade on top of the blonde.
3rd pic - how it looks whenever the colour is freshly topped up nowadays.
4th pic - how it looks when it fades after being dyed on top of red.

Chelle, the colour fades, but my hair is still mega glossy.

Go to Asda cause thye have knocked the price down to 3quid a box rather than 5.99! :D

see it loks great on you, but i dont want mine to be THAT red, but i dont think it'll go like that over brown. my friend has dark hair, almost black and she dyes it red and it just goes a nice dark shiny red...i hope mine will go like that!

Maybe it's to do with the shampoo and conditioner you're using? I dye my hair dark brown and it always looks super shiny but that's because I've worked out which products to use. What are you using to wash and condition? Also which dye did you use? Some are better than others and will stay shinier and in better condition.

i actually cant remember the name of the dye i used, i know the box but cannot for the life of me think of the name of the brand! but its the same brand i used to use for the blonde and that made my hair nice!
i use pantene brunette shampoo and conditioner.

Is that before and after red? I prefer brown.. although I actually prefer blonde on you but maybe I'm biased being a fake blonde myself. I'm pondering going back to my natural hair colour but I'm worried I won't get as much attention from guys!!

Have you considered changing ur makeup? I wouldn't know what to suggest really but you can't wear exactly the same tones of make up when you're brunette as you did when you was blonde. Maybe that will make a difference to how you feel about it? Fake tan? Maybe you're just going through shock..lol.. you might love it when you get used to it.

i used to have looooong really really dark brown hair and i loved it, but this time its just not nice, its faded so fast and just looks nasty!

i know i cant go back to blonde on my own so i think im gonna try red for a bit, if i really hate it, when i get paid next month i can go back blonde lol!

I found that I got much more attention once I'd gone to brunette- so long as it stays glossy it looks really good. Although mine's started to fade to more of a dark blonde now :impissed:

Be careful. Once you've dyed your hair red it can be very difficult to go any light colour without getting a tinge of the ginge!

Having said that, I love red hair, especially on people with pale skin and really blue eyes.

And as far as male attention goes, I got most when I had red hair. Dark brown was second, and I just seem to be invisible as a blonde (if you don't count builders :p).

I haven't tried Pantene's brunette range but from personal experience and other peoples' experiences, I know it can tend to contribute to dull hair as it deposits silicones of some sort on the hair, weighing it down. Might be worth trying another brand to see if that improves the glossiness?

Nothing with tits is invisible to builders. :p I have blondey red hair, i say its red but its really blonde. I've started dying it a darker red and i'm getting alot of compliments. Just yesterday a little girl came up to me and told me she liked my hair. I don't seem to look as pale with darker hair, might be because i dye my eyebrows too. It is hard to find different shades of red though, there seem to be shelves full of blonde and brown hair dye, but they all look the same to me.

Well done, use Herbal Essences for you hair shampoo etc. If you want a top up of colour I'd reccommend I think it's Schwarpskof(sp?)'s XXL vibrant red. It only stays in for 15 mins, then rinses out. :)

Some brands doooooo! Nice and easy sell their conditioner separately and it's ace. There are seperate ones for blondes, brunettes and redheads, and (the blondes one at least) smells gorgeous - like holidays! You don't get a huge amount, but it's worth it as a deep conditioner.

BB - I like it best red. It's more striking than the brown, but has more personality than the blonde. Nice.

I'm glad you did too! That's why I kept harping on about it, haha! yeah the XXL stuff it's like a rinse which is less hassle than the Herbal Essences stuff. You only leave it on for 15 minutes instead of 45 minutes which is brill if you're in a rush for a night out. It's not as shiny as the Herbal Essences one, but a close contender! :)

You look brill with it, well done! x

How the hell do you keep the color! Do you use tinted shampoo? Maybe its because you're blonde, you are blonde originally, right? Red wouldn't last more than a couple weeks on me no matter what brand of color. Completly jelous. God its just so vibrant!

red definately suits you best. you looked cute with brown but stand out with red!

I had red hair and I loooved it. I'm au natural now (that means light golden reddish brown) but seeing your hair's making me think about my old red hair with fond memories...

when I had mine, it faded really quick because it was over bleached hair.. I used to use a wash in wash out colour mixed with my shampoo to keep it bright and shiny, it really helps - and i used that john frieda colour glaze, which also rocked though was a bit expensive. x

I have dark brown hair and decided to go blond a couple years back. I dyed my hair blond twice in one day and it looked gorgeous, but I got tired of it after a week and dyed it a black color and it ended up turning GREEN! So then I had to dye my hair a brown/black color to try to get rid of the green. And then my hair started breaking off :(

I want to go blond again, but I think I'm going to do it professionally next time. I know they have to lift your color with bleach i think and thne they dye it the blond you want. Just make sure your blond doesn't end up turning brassy!
