Hi everyone, i stayed over my friends house the other night and she grinds her teeth in her sleep and it is ridiculously loud. Does anyone what it is? What causes it? and better still how she can get rid of it...? she wanted me to ask on this website
Any comments gratefully received :)

I think it's something you can discuss with your dentist and possibly get some kind of gear that forces you to relax your jaw muscles in your sleep.
I don't know why it happens, I seem to tense my muscles in my sleep sometimes and it causes me to have clicky jaws. I used quite a bit of chewing gum when it was at its worst and since then I've quit using it and things improved. Still have it though. My dentist didn't tell me why this happens. Maybe google knows. :P

I didn't realise I did it until I completely cracked my plastic retainer after having it for a few weeks. They are pretty strong so I must do it a lot...
My orthodontist said it was because I must grind my teeth and I wondered what caused it too.

My mom has it. Usually stress related if I remember correctly. Ends up causing headaches and toothaches during the day. When it happens, she just pops in a mouthguard at night and its all good. Just a store bought sports one too, nothing fancy.
