got a lovely new rug from freecycle today, had to go to south london and go soaked and a chill as a result but it was definatly worth it!
i've cleaned it resonably well and hoovered it but there is still a bit lump of blue tac stuck on it...how do i remove it?

Chewing gum remedies ? Try freezing it (ice cubes in a bag/aerosol) and it should break off.

best not do it in the new flat then, seeing as it's no redecorating allowed!

I got this off the blu tack website
How do I get Blu Tack out of the carpet?
Unfortunately this is a difficult one. Try dabbing with a citrus based stain remover to soften the material and pull away. These types of cleaners are available in good grocery, variety and hardware outlets.
Always spot test first to make sure that the stain remover doesn't strip the colour out of the carpet.

sorry, but fuck that made me laugh. :)
No. A proper stain remover that has a fruit oil (orange/lemon) as it's base. Blu tack is a type of putty so i imagine that an oil based sovent will be the only thing to 'dilute' it to get it out. I don't actually know of any, but Stain Devil do a big range of stain removers. If you go to a large supermarket there should be some near the washing powders etc or maybe try a dry cleaners, they often sell them. Lighter fluid, like Kat said may well work to and would be cheaper.
I'd try the freezing techique first. What few sites have suggested for removing putty.

cover it in icecubes 1st and see if that works like it does with chewing gum
failing all the above, you could strategically place a coffee table over the top of the mark :-)

I've got some "wonder wipes" in my car which I use for maintenance e.t.c.
I managed to get dried paint off a worktop with them, and appatrently they're good for cleaning up silicon. It's worth giving them a try.
