Failure to Attend Court

My brother was told by his solicitor that he did not need to attend a hearing on Thursday (this is usually what he is told and to date it has been true). He has been arrested this evening for failing to attend court on Thursday. Putting aside what a moron he has for a solicitor, what penalty is he likely to face? He is going to court in the morning. Will this be to answer the 'failure to attend' charge or the original charge?

Having no experience of the police or court system our whole family is confused and worried.

The warrant for his arrest is for not attending court, which is a separate criminal offence and is also a breach of his bail terms. He will be taken before the court this morning and asked why he didn't turn up- legal advice should be enough- and whilst he can be remanded in custody, for a first offence like this it isn't really likely. His solicitor saying he didn't need to attend will solve the problems.

If the solicitor is that bad he should consider changing solicitors. He can consult the duty solicitor at the Magistrates Court.
