Well I'm having another bash with the mooncup after many disasterous attempts

When i sit down I can still feel the stalk :( Does this mean its not high enough or that I need to trim it a bit?

Also It gives me backache when I use it. What could this be?

Arghh the backache its giving me is agony. Whats going on with this?

I've never used one before but it sounds a bit like when a tampon isnt in right, can you push it up a bit further?

Tbh though if it's causing you more pain that just it not being in right, I'd give up with it.

Ive chopped off the stalk but tbh i cant tell if i can feel it cos i hurt my lady bits taking it out!!!!!!!!

IT IS EVIL

I want to use it though. I hate tampons and pads are just too gross to be allowed. When I can work the cup its perfect

When I take it out or put it in there doesnt seem to be enough room for the cup and my fingers in my foof so its kind of hard to manouver it

This thread is gross. Apologies :yuck:

So you've used it comfortably before?

kangoo

Errrmmm the times its been in comfortably are when it goes really high and I can't get it out!! It always seems to give me a bit of backache though, although its in now and seems to be doing ok. Maybe its a turning point :)

i completely cut the stalk off mine.
It shouldnt hurt to remove. You need to kind of squeeze gently to break the suction before trying to pull it out and then it should come out easily.

SuzyCreamcheese

The problem with them having a stalk there is im sure it encourages people to try and pull down on the stalk like a tampon string, when thats not how you take it out at all.

If you're having difficulties with the cup, but don't want to use tampons/pads, have you thought about using natural sea sponges? A friend of mine in the US uses them, you can buy them out there, but over here, all you have to do is cut a sponge into a sphere and you can reuse them etc. I'm not sure what the brand name is though, I think they're called sea pearls.

The idea of a sponge doesnt fill me with confidence, wouldnt it leak like a normal bath sponge does when it's absorbed water?

I'm not sure, I haven't tried them. Read a book where the woman said when it gets close to full, it kind of drops a little lower in the vagina, giving a woman enough time to go and change it. I feel stable enough with my mooncup, but I'd use them if I had a really light flow.

kangoo
15-12-2006, 03:58 PM
Ah not fancying the idea of the sea sponge sorry

It hurts when the fat end is coming out cos it feels too big and then pops out and hurts the skin. Maybe I just need more practice. I also find it hard to grab hold of to break the seal because I can't fit my fingers up there too! There's not enough room for both! I usually end up wildly grabbing around and yanking it down when I finally manage to get a grip on it!!

The stalk is all the way off and its quite comfy now, feeling a bit tender around my back but that could be the return of my period pain. Its gone very far up so god knows how I'm going to get the damn thing out!

No leakage so far though :yippe:

Go on then, i'll ask. What on earth is a mooncup ?

And if anyone says it's used by druids on the solstice they'll get a slap with a damp kipper :p

Maybe bearing down (sort of pushing out with your P.F muscles) at the same time when trying to remove it would help? It should push the bottom end of it out enough for you to squeeze and break the seal. It sounds like a faff but if you get the hang of it, its just pretty much one easy motion.

I just had a poop and it tried to come out

I do bear down when I get it out but for some reason I can't get a hold of it! Maybe I'm getting in a tizzy and panicking

Heehee... made me chuckle. :)

Was just wondering... those of you who've tried mooncups... does it sort of give you an idea how much blood your losing?

It's just I heard once that you only lose about a table spoon of blood per period, and I dunno if that's a myth of if I'm getting heavy periods...

Last time I was on I took a shower and before I had chance to get out I'd bled all over the bath... I reckon there was a table-spoon amount just from that, maybe more... It was icky... I had to use a second towel :yeees:

SuzyCreamcheese

theres a lot more than that with mine and i dont have heavy periods usually.
id say about an eggcupfull a day was normal.

Having a silicone cup full of blood sitting inside your vagina is just a horrible thought!!

no worse than a plug of blood soaked matted fibres in there.
Its just another way of dealing with it, and a more convenient and environmentally friendly way of doing it too, not to mention cheaper

each to their own.
Gotta do something with it though, and failing a hysterectomy, thats gonna involve collecting the blood somewhere somehow.
Not much point getting squeamish over it.

So what do you use? 'Cause that leaves pads, and to me that is surely the most disgusting way of the lot? Yucky >.<

Maybe you have the wrong size?

I got used to mine and now love it.

Yesterday was all going swimmingly. Except it leaked 4 times

3 was because it was full! full 3 times in 24 hours! isnt is supposed to hold a third of your period blood?!?!?!?!

the 4th time was when i was in bed, maybe i jiggled it around? think i'm getting the hang of it though

SuzyCreamcheese
16-12-2006, 02:54 PM
thats a heavy flow! no harm in using a panty liner too on your heaviest days I guess. It shouldnt leak in bed though. Im assuming you havent got it far up enough. It should kind of form a seal against your cervix, which would mean it wouldnt leak even when horizontal, but it does sound like youre getting the hang of it. Well done for the perserverance!! Once you get the knack its sooo easy.

kangoo
16-12-2006, 03:55 PM
I was just in bed again and it leaked :( it says its supposed to sit quite low. Doesn't seem to leak unless I'm in bed though

This isn't even that heavy for me. I've never been able to use pads because they won't even last 15 minutes on my first day

SuzyCreamcheese
16-12-2006, 05:31 PM
im a bit flummoxed really, unless youre not putting it in right. You kind of almost have to fold it to get it in, and im surprised you could get it in without doing that as it makes it more of an easier size, then push it up towards your cervix towards the top, and when you release it, it should kind of pop open and form a seal around your cervix - youll know when its formed a seal as you wont be able to get it out easily unless you squeeze and bear down to break the seal as I said earlier.
Its that seal that is protecting you and making the flow go into the mooncup and not spill or overflow, being that its non absorbant. If it hasnt sealed, it will leak.
Its normal to feel like its sitting low, but the top of it should actually be fairly high. It just feels low cos theyre a bit bigger than a tampon.
I dont actually think the pic on the mooncup site of how to use it is particularly accurate. Either I have a very short vagina or that mooncup needs to go further up.

If its just irritating to practice when youre on and bleeding lots, its worth remembering though that because of the nature of it, unlike tampons, its perfectly safe to practice with it even when youre not bleeding.
When youve got it right, with the seal and everything, i think youll know.

Hrm odd...

Mine leaks if I leave it in for ages... Are the little holes around the seal open?

Mooncup has tiny holes that you can push through with a pin if they are sealed.. Maybe that's the problem... Or maybe you aren't pushing it inside of you enough.

I've got the hang of it I think, it still pinches coming out though. It doesn't leak in the day just in the night!

SuzyCreamcheese
17-12-2006, 07:30 PM
maybe your flow is just too heavy to cope overnight without a towel too? or do you think its leaking when its not full?
yay for getting the hang of it the rest of the time tho.

Yeah it leeaks when its not full at night/ Sometimes when I've put it in a bit of blood will come out too, but only a tiny bit. Its all very strange

I don't trust it 100% yet but its still a million times better than tampons :thumb:

I hate tampons... With their icky dangly bits of string eew

SuzyCreamcheese

tampons are horrid. I always found it annoying how you have to hold the string out of the way when you wee otherwise you wee on the string, but that invariably meant i accidently peed on my fingers.
I really think mooncup is a great invention and id advise anyone to give it a shot . Its not always difficult to get the hang of. I got the hang of mine straight away.

Grr

Tampons are so wrong. I always weed on the string by mistake

I must say that by the end of my period I was so much better at using the mooncup and there's only a few problems I have which I hope will be ironed out next period :yippe:
