I never enjoyed weed to start with though, as it just didn't do anything for me.

People often have huge expectations about weed, and the first time usually won't live up to them. If I do smoke (which is very rarely) it's not 'cos I want to get high, it's 'cos I'm having a good time, or want to chill out a bit, or just socialising really. You shouldn't rely on weed alone for good experiences.

I get the feeling this expectation is spured on by a clueless, 'over exagerating' entertainment industry :D

You really do have to smoke a few spliffs or get immensley stoned on 10 (depends on the user) to get a real/semi expereince. I suggest you get hold of a blunt. Just two to three drags and you definatley know what being stoned is about. Have enough of them in a sesh and you'll be there. Before i started pills, me and pals smoked silly amounts of weed in blunts all night, best buzz I'd had!

I was very dissapointed the first times too. When you learn the dosage and the toking better, the right intervals inbetween to light one up and how to properly roll one, it can become a very cozy and funny evening.

Cannabis is great to smoke when you're on a come down though and can make a night good espescially when you get the laughter fits, which I unfortunately haven't had for ages though.

Smoking Cannabis in Amsterdam is a totally different experience though, not just because of the quality of the skunk and even more so the hash, but because of the environment that you are smoking it in and the selection you have.

I do love having a smoke, I love my weed and I think getting stoned is a quality way to have a laugh with your mates but there is no way I'd rather stay in with a few mates and get stoned than going out and getting pissed or pilled up or something in a club. I'm sorry but I find it incredibly dull in comparsion, but hey each to their own.

You HAVE to go! I can't even begin to explain how great that city is, you really have to go there and experience it for yourself. The coffeeshops with their huge varieties of excellent skunks and hash with some of the nicest people you'll ever meet in them to talk shit to, the red light district with it's sex shops, sex shows, prostitutes in the windows and the availability of Cocaine, Ecstasy, MDMA Powder and Speed...you don't even need to go looking for it, just walk down a street in the red light district and you have people coming up to you whispering "Ecstasy, Cocaine?" Fucking nice pills out there too!
Oh and don't get me started on the Mushrooms which are still legal! Huge selections of different shrooms in smart shops all with descriptions about them.
Plus the clubs out there amazing, some excellent hardcore and drum and bass being played!
And the city itself is beautiful!

I've been a couple times. Worth going but I think twice is enough!! Did all the touristy bits and then went on to get cained. If you are going to go have a gander at the red light district on your own, don't go down there late night...it's intimidating if you are on your own and generally really dodgy. It's not what goes on in the shop windows it's more the blokes that hang around there. They eye you up and down and shout comments at you.

As for weed, think I grew out of it basically. After living with someone with a bit of a weed addiction (whether that actually exists or not is a separate argument!) the smell of it makes me gag and I think thats a psychological thing because of the bad memories for me. I joined in with everyone else while I was in Amsterdam but never touched it again since. Doing a whitey and getting stuck in a time loop at the hostel room is funny now but it wasn't at the time!! I think it is overrated personally but I can see why people enjoy it.

You'll be absolutely FINE smoking the weed in the coffeeshops and even doing mushrooms (if you don't mind tripping on your own lol). Weed is legal and sold over the counter, weighed out in front of you so no mugging will be involved. Also as I said, the will meet so many great people in the coffeeshops. No dodgy people in there at all, just really friendly people who will be more than happy to share their joint with you and have a conversation. Local dutch people on their lunch breaks from work or fellow british tourists go there alot.
However yeah I would advise that you DON'T go anywhere near the illegal dealers selling Ecstasy and Cocaine in the red light district if you're on your own. I was with a bunch of mates and we got sold sweets as pills once and my mate almost got mugged but we were all together and fucked so found it quite funny. You can go down the redlight district on your own in the daytime to experience it, just ignore the dealers. However at night you shouldn't go to the redlight district at all, stick to the clubs. We went to the red light district at 4 in the morning to get more pills and the taxi driver who drove us there was warning us to turn back and stuff but we were buzzing our tits off and were like "yeah whatever mate we don't care". lol.

Yup I agree, I smoke skunk every night of the week and have done for quite a few years, so I sit and get stoned with my mates every night but come Friday night and the spliffs are put away and out to get pissed and pop some pills and niff some charlie. Then usually come Sunday I'm back at home with the mates getting stoned again.
Am looking forward to a big smoke tonight, got some nice Skunk.
