View Full Version : Prettiest track

I don't usually post rubbish threads like this, but after catching this track on one of the iTunes radio stations it got me thinking.
What are peoples thoughts on the prettiest songs (non-classical) ever released?
I have two nominations:
Massive Attack: Tear drop
Chicane: No Ordinary Morning
Both stunning tracks, and both of which have some beautiful memories for me.
Both of these songs are a few years old now (around the 10 year old mark...) and so some of the younger members on the forum could do well to look them up and have a listen.

Yeeah, on the Songs CD its the slow version but on the album 'Begin To Hope' Samson is just the same but faster and its not as pretty as the slowed down version.

I've always found the prettiest Paul Simon song to be 59th Bridge Street Song (Feelin' Groovy) but there are so, so many. Still Crazy After All These Years, American Tune, The Boxer, The Only Living Boy in New York.
I also love Duncan - more for the instrumental parts rather than the lyrics, but I find "my father was a fisherman, my momma was a fisherman's friend" very cute :)
Bob Dylan - Visions of Johanna, You Angel You, and Mr Tambourine Man
"Then take me disappearin' through the smoke rings of my mind,
Down the foggy ruins of time, far past the frozen leaves,
The haunted, frightened trees, out to the windy beach,
Far from the twisted reach of crazy sorrow.
Yes, to dance beneath the diamond sky with one hand waving free,
Silhouetted by the sea, circled by the circus sands,
With all memory and fate driven deep beneath the waves,
Let me forget about today until tomorrow."
Sting - Shape of My Heart
Tom Paxton - The Last Thing on my Mind
Tom Waits - Martha, Little Trip to Heaven (On the Wings of Your Love)
Devendra Banhart - Korean Dogwood
Van Morrison - Into the Mystic
Belle & Sebastian - Piazza, New York Catcher
The Saw Doctors - Red Cortina
Ben Harper - When She Believes
Flying Burrito Brothers w/ Gram Parsons - Wild Horses
The Earlies - Wayward Song
I Am Kloot - To You
Joan Baez & Judy Collins - Oh, Had I A Golden Thread
Leonard Cohen - Joan of Arc
