its welsh fruit bread, 'bara' being welsh for bread. i didn't know you could get it up in newcastle though, i've never seen it?

I said I wouldn't like it because I generally don't like dried fruit but in truth I''ve never had it. I love Lardy Cake though - is it anything like that?

It's a bit like that, with spices, but not made with lard. It's spiced dried fruit, but they're not dry because you soak the fruit in a pint of tea for 24 hours before making it. It's a sweet bread rather than a malted loaf.

LOL @ Lardy cake. How can something sound so gross but taste so good? My granny used to feed me lardy cake with butter on it. No wonder I was such a fat child LOL

It sounds like fruit loaf and I love that, I'll have to look out for it.
Do you spread anything on it? I usually have butter on fruit loaf but on it's own is good too.

My old mans just been down the bakery to pick up some bread and he's also brought back a Wiltshire lardy cake. :yum:
