Volume on laptop

I seem to remember posting something on here about buttons on my keyboard not doing something they were meant to before, but never mind, different problem, but if it's as easy to fix then I'll be happy!

Got a new laptop today. All is working good, except I've spent the last 5 hours trying to figure out how to turn the volume up and down. I can click the icon in the task bar etc, but there is actually symbols for turning it up and down on the F3 and F4 keys. However, I can't get them to work :) Anyone know how?

When using the volume up/down keys (F3/F4) you will probably need to press the fn (function) key at the same time.
This key is usually located along the bottom row of the keyboard near to the Ctrl or Alt key.
