Ok guys heres my little hang up.
I switched rooms with my sis a couple years ago cause she moved back home after she split with her BF. I got transfered to a smaller room but I got Telewest Digital in in. However I also got stuck with one of those fucking sofa bunkbed things cause someone in my family didn't want it so I get my head bashed every morning when I woke up for a couple years and it was as squeaky as hell. Worst bit? took up half the bedroom! had to shimmy out my room in the morning.
I got my dad to redo my room, got new furniture (all of my old furniture was handed down) room repainted (dark blue, I picked it) but my dad picked a wine red carpet so it looks fucking horrible anyway. Best bit? got a new bed that touches the floor and has more room! I put a few knick knacks (I got pics if you wanna see) to make it more at home but a mate says "thats too geeky, you wanna get laid? ditch the stuff" in the meantime hes gone off putting sofas and dimmer switches on his walls.
so what do you think of the stuff first of all and is my mate right?
ladies if you could participate that would be great.
any suggestions welcome. (well ALMOST any....)

Not having a few geeky things won't get you laid.
Trust me.

Tbh, I dislike all three.
However, if you like them then that's all that matters :thumb:
Edit: Getting laid all depends on your moves *before* you get to the bedroom. Once she's there then you are almost there.

I agree you have to put the moves on a girl to get her in the room but if she don't like that kinda stuff and its in your room, then she will bolt...

The fact that you're bringing her back to your parents house is far more geeky than anything you can put in the room to decorate it. :p Seriously, lose the hang-ups. If they're combined with every series of Farscape, Stargate and Buffy on DVD, and a poster showing the complete plans of the Starship Enterprise, then she might think you a tad geeky. On their own, there's nothing wrong with any of them. But if you're geeky, then most girls would've picked that up long before you get to the bedroom, so decorate it based on what you like, not some girl you haven't even met yet.

Honestly, if you're talking one night stands, taking a girl back to your parent's house is more of a passion killer than those things.
And if it's a girlfriend, she shouldn't care.

If you like them then keep them up. It is your room, and primarily you that has to look at them. My house would look bloody stupid with stuff like that in it, but I'm sure your room would look bloody stupid with the kind of stuff I have around because people that know you would be able to tell a mile off that they aren't there because you like them, but because you think you sohould have them there.

The only thing in your room that will affect you getting laid is the availabilty of surfaces for the adminstration of a good seeing to upon. And even then, there's the floor.
Interior decorating is pretty low down the list of things that encourage women to take their clothes off.

 All true.
By the time you get her up to your bedroom, I would say you're pretty much in there, and the only things likely to scupper your chances, interior decorating wise, are tapestries made out of the skins of prostitutes you've murdered, or a sculpture rendered from toenail clippings and semen.
I don't especially like them but if I was planning on shagging you anyway, they wouldn't put me off.

I have lots of star wars figures, motorbikes, pics of animals / motorbikes, some weird camel thing from spain :thumb: all very geeky. Girls tend to ignore them though, or sometimes they'll find one interesting. For some reason the most interesting bit of my bedroom seems to be my bed  :p.
Had one girl who noticed a bottle of 'kalms' and asked me if I got stressed a lot. Thing is, whenever I've been in a girls room, theres always random crap all over the place. But usually its a case of throw the teddies on the floor and cuddle on the bed.

*points* What they said!
It's just a few items. Like I'm With Stupid said, if your room is *filled* with uber-geeky things, I could understand you angsting about the anti-girl vibes. But they are, as you say, knick knacks. If you're bringing someone to your room & they free out over stuff like that, I'd say good riddence. Me, I have cuddly toys sitting on my bed, & my room is plastered with posters of anime characters & musicians I like. If I brought someone home & they pointed & laughed at the plushies or anime stuff, or whined because the musicians were hotter than them, my response will be "Bye!". It's not even that I'm that obsessed with my possessions that I value them more than a potential partner, but frankly if you're that shallow that a few knick knacks will put you off someone then I ain't interested.
Look at it this way - either it's a one night stand, in which case why should she care you have some geeky stuff. Or it's a relationship, & if she's put off by your hobbies you're best off not getting together.
Also, isn't it kinda sexist to assume girls will be put off? There are female geeks out there! You've already mentioned at least one girl found that skull cute.

My room. I'd be embarrassed to let anyone in that shit-tip at the moment. I'm currently in my "I'm moving out soon, I couldn't give a shit" phase. But let me think. I've got two TV's, a VCR, DVD Player, surround sound amp, speakers, set-top box, (most of which isn't actually hooked up, it's just there), a computer, a single bed (:grump: damn parents house), a few film posters (Rocky, Jaws, Pulp Fiction and Finding Nemo if you must know), old uni advertisement posters, a simpsons mirror, a random pile of Christmas/birthday presents in the corner that just never got put away, and the greatest DVD collection known to man. My ex didn't have an issue with any of it though, but my ridiculous collection of electrical equipment always raises the odd eyebrow. But it beats the usual underpants drying on a radiator that was an everpresent at university.

You sound like you care to much what other people think. You're asking us whether an ornament will turn off some hypothetical girl who you haven't actually got to your room yet. There's plenty of things that people might feel insecure about if they brought a girl back to your room. The decor shouldn't be one of them.

Just Full Metal Alchemist, Trigun & Howl's Moving Castle ATM. I need more, but I'm moving soon so I gotta wait to see how much wallspace I have :chin: .And I have a huge Dalek poster on the outside of my door. Anyone coming back to my room gets fair warning I'm a geek. :thumb:
As for photos & candles - what's wrong with a guy having photos? Maybe if you have about 50 photos of your mum, it might be a bit creepy, but that would apply to girls as well. And as for candles, a lot of girls will probably either think you're trying to 'set a romantic mood' or whatever, or be smart enough to realise they're just an interesting ornament. My (male) housemate owns 2 candles - one is designed to look like a glass full of Guinness, & the other it a tall black candle jammed into an empty JD bottle. The only comments they've gotten is "Cool!".

Oh that's easy. Just avoid the food wrappers/crockery etc, and the dirty laundry and you should be fine on that one. I think it's good if you have a few points of interest where someone might go "ooh, that's cool/wierd/interesting" but it can be overwhelming to go into a room with too much of that in there. But that's just my opinion.
The thing in my room that everyone seems to love is a picture of Spongebob that I have on my door, which was originally one of those cardboard bases from a birthday cake. Every girl I knew tried to get me to give them that before I left uni. Fat chance.

The things that will make your room look lived in and interesting are the books you read, CDs you've got etc; that's the stuff I always want to look at when I'm in someone's room for the first time, because it tells you far more about them than any mass produced piece of art or little ornament thing can.

sorry, but why would you even want that crap in your room anyway? it looks hideous!
With all the skulls and shit lying around your room resembles some kind of graveyard - not a good style mate.
If you want it to be unique and stylish how about plastering your walls with flyers from events? one of my mates did this with rave flyers when he was younger and it looked pretty good, im sure you could do the same with flyers from whatever sort of music youre into. plus when you get bored of your room that way you can just rip them down and its like a whole new makeover

You can't tell someone's personality from their CD/DVD collection, but you can tell some of their interests.

your right.
I just asked this question on here instead of my usual stupid questions on the relationships board. Im just disolusioned about alot of things and in turn I question everything I do and that just leads to me just being plain miserable.

sorry, but why would you even want that crap in your room anyway? it looks hideous!
With all the skulls and shit lying around your room resembles some kind of graveyard - not a good style mate.
If you want it to be unique and stylish how about plastering your walls with flyers from events? one of my mates did this with rave flyers when he was younger and it looked pretty good, im sure you could do the same with flyers from whatever sort of music youre into. plus when you get bored of your room that way you can just rip them down and its like a whole new makeover
well if hes into gothy stuff hes probably not gonna be into rave flyers so hed be decorating his room in someone elses tastes. Tbh, id be more put off by rave flyers than by gothy ornaments, but thats just me. Id prefer it if the skull were real myself! Now that would impress me
Basically im saying what others have said - different girls like different things. You cant please all of the people all of the time.
I also agree with sophia - CDs, DVDs, Books - I usually look at those first when i go round someones house, and then I look through their fridge.

I just dont think 'tacky' ornaments are the way to go for anyone though imho.
I hate all ornaments that dont have a purpose, little bears, dragons, skulls, figurines - whats the point? thats twenty quid you could have spent on getting pissed with your mates.
Was it really worth 3 or 4 hours grafting to be able to look at a mass produced figurine whenever you wanted? i know this is rather off topic but thats just my stance on ornaments scattered round rooms.
Keep your room simple! Just keep the stuff you really need in there - clothes, cd player, tv, dvd player, dvds, cds & books. Just dont waste your money on the things you mentioned - buy a new game for your ps2 or something you'll probably enjoy it more.

well for what its worth, I dont't drink so the £20 would have gone on KFC or macky D's....
This thread is proving my point that if a girl does see shit like skulls and shit then they will run 5 miles. Then you should be yourself but heres the kicker, I dont know what the fuck I am.
Icey: I take it you hold a grudge against items that just sit there and don't do anything. Which is fine. you have a point. I mean ive seen a huge statue of metal gears solids snake for £100. seems like a good idea when you buy it but then you think "why the fuck did I buy this again?".
Just out of interest, whats in your room Icey?

Me too. Though I make sure all of my functional stuff is pretty instead. I'd rather have a gorgeous hifi on it's own, than a crappy looking plasticky thing surrounded by loads of ornaments that are meant to look good.

Do a search in the anything goes section. I remember there was a thread a while back where people posted pictures of their rooms. Can't remember what it was called though. Maybe someone else remembers.
well truth be told i sort of have two rooms.
One room (my actual bedroom) just has a bed, wardrobe, bookcase (which houses all my dvds & cds), bedside table with my portable dvd player and a lamp on it and a chest of drawers.
My 'other room' which is not just mine but its mostly me who goes in there has a sofa bed, my stereo, pc, xbox & tv. oh, and a chair for the pc.
Pretty basic but it does the trick and looks nice also. all the fittings and fixtures match and go well together (colour matching etc, so no black painted walls & lime green carpets or anything)
ETA: this is the photos of bedrooms thread: http://vbulletin.thesite.org.uk/showthread.php?t=102650&highlight=picture+room (mine is in there)

I quite liked the skull, which raises the point that some girls are going to like it where others arent so you might as well just make sure you have a room that you like. Don't worry about what other people think.

You can please some of the people all of the time and all of the people some of the time, but you cant please all of the people all of the time.
I dont mind stuff like that, you hate it. Half the stuff in my house probably wouldnt be to your taste and vice versa. Girls vary as wildly in their taste as boys do. Its a stupid question really - will girls like this, or will girls like that?

But whatever, i'm not going to be in there any time soon and as long as you haven't got anything that really shouldn't be there then it doesnt really matter. If you're that bothered about them then put them away when you have company.

What point is that? Everyone on here so far has said, firstly, that they either like or dislike the stuff that you've picked out (i.e. different people have different tastes). And secondly that if they were going back to a lads room, the last thing on their mind is whether they have a few collectables on their shelves. Oh and don't remove stuff from your room just because you've got a girl around (unless it's stuff which you don't particularly like anyway, like dirty underwear). If a girl likes you, she's not going to care what you have in your room. She'd probably think more badly if she found out that you'd hidden stuff from your room because you'd think she wouldn't like it. Nothing screams pushover more than someone who starts to change themselves depending on what they think their partner likes. Oh, and just for the record, my ex-girlfriend would've loved all that sort of stuff, and she's 17 and a bit of a rock chick, which I think I've heard you say you're into.
But this whole thing is kinda problematic. You're looking at things you really shouldn't care about. You know what gonna happen when you see a girl you like and want to talk to her? You're gonna think "Oh, but my rooms not okay, what if she want's to come back to it?" and you'll end up using it as an excuse not to talk to her, when in reality, it's not an issue at all. You'll come up with little reasons why you can't do something, and as a result, you'll never do them. But I've kinda let myself get sidetracked into relationships here.
Nothing wrong with asking for people's opinions, but at the end of the day, buy what you like. And don't expect a definitive answer as to what girls like, because you'll never get one. It's hard enough to figure out an individual girl, never mind the whole of womankind. :p

 But, you're gonna have to be yourself at someone point - you can't get around that, & even if you could, it's not fair on the girl. How would you feel if you were going out with someone, & then found out they'd lied to you & acted like something they're not? Thing is, the room is an expression of your personality - if a girl is freaked out by your room "looking like a graveyard" they're probably not gonna be into you full stop.
I actually don't like Akira that much (heresy!). It was OK, but I'm not as fanatical about it as some people I guess... Woo! And your last batch of photos - Kakihara! I need an Ichi the Killer poster, definitely. The only drawback with a guy having that in his room when he took me back is I'd probably be more interested in Kakihara than him. What? He's cute & has nifty dress sense! And he can blow smoke through his cheeks...
